Fawn Fire Smoke Fills Sky Near Shasta Lake, California

The Fawn Fire burned 5,850 acres in Shasta County, California, and was 10 percent contained as of Friday, September 24, after thousands of residents evacuated a day prior, according to local officials.

This footage filmed by Brittanie Pivinski shows a smoke-filled sky near Shasta Lake on Thursday.

“During our drive through Shasta Lake, we ran right into a wildfire,” she wrote in a caption. “As we’re entering the area, I get emergency alerts saying they’re evacuating this area.”

Pivinski wrote, “It was bright and sunny, then all of a sudden it goes dark from all the heavy smoke and flames. It was wild. My eyes burned for a solid 45 minutes after driving through the fire.” Credit: Brittanie Pivinski via Storyful
