You wake up, totally refreshed, after what felt like the most restful night of sleep...ever. You turn to your right and who do you see? Your spouse? Your boyfriend or girlfriend? Nope, it's your golden retriever.

A recent study by researchers at Canisius College found that some women sleep better with dogs next to them than they do next to other humans. During the study, researchers interviewed 962 women in the U.S. and found that 55 percent of the sample reported sharing their bed with at least one dog, 31 percent with at least a cat and 57 percent with a person.

After analyzing the women's perceived quality of sleep, they determined that cats and humans were equally disruptive, whereas dogs were less likely to cause disruptions.

Why? No one is really sure, and more research is necessary to confirm our suspicions that pups make the best bedmates.

Hear that, Fido? You're sleeping with mom tonight.
