This is my goodbye to 2020. I have hope for 2021. I hope my children can step foot in a classroom for the first time since March. I hope to hug my friends back home in NYC that I haven’t seen since March. I hope to safely get to leave the state of California and not feel that I am making the jobs of doctors and nurses and frontline workers more difficult. I realize how hard this platform can be sometimes, watching people post perfect snaps of their life or their vacations. Let me be the first tell you, my life is not perfect. In fact this year was the hardest I can remember. But it also had its beauty. Never in my life would I have ever been afforded this kind of quality time with my kids and my husband. I will always find the joy in that (even though at times I too get frustrated) And yes, I would love to find myself in new places, exploring new surroundings, but I will continue to choose to be part of the solution and follow the guidelines. I will make the most of this time even though it’s challenging. I will gladly give up this holiday season in exchange for a lifetime of them, for me, my loved ones, and everyone sacrificing. Thank you to everyone doing the same. Peace out 2020 (I won’t miss you)

Guatemalan security forces on Monday cleared a road of hundreds of migrants in a caravan bound for the U.S., after an intense standoff overnight, during which police used sticks to try to beat back the mostly Honduran migrant group. The clash Sunday night was the latest effort by Guatemalan authorities to break up the caravan, which authorities said numbered close to 8,000 people within hours of its departure for the United States from Honduras last week. About 2,000 of the migrants installed themselves on the road after they clashed with Guatemalan security forces during a failed effort to make their way past. The Guatemalan government said groups of migrants looked for alternative routes after the clearance. It was unclear how many were turning back altogether. The migrants included families with young children. Many say they are fleeing poverty and lawlessness in a region rocked by the coronavirus pandemic and two hurricanes in November. The first migrant caravan of the year comes just days before the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Joe Biden, who promised to adopt a more humane approach to migration than outgoing President Donald Trump, who favored a hardline approach. Mexican President Andres Lopez Obrador on Monday warned migrants not to try to enter countries by force, and said he was in touch with both the outgoing and incoming U.S. administrations over the migrant caravan.

As one of his last acts in office, President Trump has ordered the building of a monument garden to include scores — upon scores — of statues of “American heroes.” Figures for the garden range from John Adams, Samuel Adams and Muhammad Ali to Annie Oakley, Jesse Owens and Rosa Parks … not to mention Walt Disney, Grover Cleveland and Alex Trebek. It’s unclear how the expansive list was compiled or who compiled it, but according to the “Executive Order on Building the National Garden of American Heroes” issued Monday morning, it’s “America’s answer to this reckless attempt to erase our heroes, values, and entire way of life. Bosses given 30 days to pay suppliers' bills as UK payment code strengthened
Bosses of large businesses will have to personally make sure bills to suppliers are settled within a month, in a change to a government system aimed at relieving pressure on thousands of small businesses suffering amid the pandemic. It comes as the Government strengthens its prompt payment code – which is voluntary though widely followed – so that 95pc of invoices from small firms are paid within 30 days by larger counterparts. This reduces the deadline from 60 days, which will remain the time target for payments to suppliers that employ over 50 people. As of July 1, company directors, chief executives and finance directors must personally sign the code to ensure responsibility for bills to be settled on time is taken at the top of organisations. The crackdown marks an effort by Whitehall to further safeguard fair treatment and payment practices between organisations of any size in supply chains. Almost 3,000 companies have signed the code, which was first established in December 2008, and a failure to abide by the new terms will see them kicked off the programme. The Government is cracking down on a long-running problem of late payments, which has only been exacerbated as businesses are hit by the pandemic. It comes as small organisations struggle with cash flow, with many lacking the financial resources a larger counterpart would have. Officials estimate about £23bn of late invoices are owed to businesses across Britain, reported the FT. Bosses will also have to acknowledge suppliers can charge interest on late invoices, and the code - overseen by the Office of the Small Business Commissioner on behalf of the business department - has allowed breaches to be investigated based on third-party information. Companies are publicly named and shamed if they breach the rules, as health food chain Holland & Barrett was in 2019 for late payments.
