A group of men and boys carried a large crucifix out of a church damaged by Hurricane Laura in Cameron, Louisiana, on September 12, as part of a community cleanup after the Category 4 storm hit Cameron Parish on August 27.
Footage of the cleanup uploaded to Facebook shows the group carrying the life-size crucifix out of Our Lady, Star of the Sea Catholic church.
Video uploader Lance Strother said the crew – a group of boys from St Thomas More High School in Lafayette and their dads – spent the day “serving our neighbors in Grand Chenier, Pecan Island, Creole, & Cameron.”
Strother wrote on the post, “We were asked if we could help preserve an Italian-made crucifix among other things. I think this image will forever be burnt in my memory.”
