Father Surprises Fourth-Grader During School Veterans Day Parade

A fourth-grader at Wilderness Oak Elementary School in San Antonio, Texas, was surprised when his father, an Army lieutenant colonel who was deployed in Virginia, showed up to walk in the school’s Veterans Day parade on November 11.

Video shared by the Northeast Independent School District on Instagram shows Gus Mueller’s reaction when he realizes his father is walking toward him as part of the school Veterans Day parade.

According to the school’s post, Mueller flew in from Virginia to walk in the parade and surprise his son. They had not seen each other in four months.

In a quote shared by the school district, Mueller said, “Gus has always asked me to come to this, so it was extra special to surprise him on Veterans Day. We locked eyes in the hall, and I just couldn’t believe how big he’s gotten in just a few months. I can’t wait to spend some time with him.” Credit: Northeast ISD via Storyful
