Two children died after a group of four children fell into an icy river in Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine, on Tuesday, January 17, according to Kyiv’s head of police, Andriy Nebytov.
The State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine said an off-duty police officer was walking with his family near the Ros River in Bila Tserkva district, south of Kyiv, when he heard cries for help and spotted the drowning children. He called emergency services immediately and, with help from another officer, managed to rescue three girls, authorities said.
The third girl to be rescued child died after being taken to a local hospital, Nebytov said, and the body of the fourth child was found later.
