Fire crews responded to a “fatal fire” at a three-story rowhouse in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday morning, January 5, the Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) said.
Local media citing sources in the city’s fire and police departments reported that multiple people had died in the fire.
The PFD tweeted that firefighters arrived at 6:40 am and “found heavy fire coming from the second floor” of the building. “It took 50 minutes to place the fire under control,” the department added.
The fire department said it would hold a news conference near the scene later on Wednesday morning.
