Fast-Moving Wildfire Forces Evacuations in Santa Barbara

Firefighters said they were making good progress in containing a wind-whipped vegetation fire that forced evacuations and threatened homes in Santa Barbara on Thursday night, May 20, local media reported.

Santa Barbara County Fire said the Loma Fire rapidly expanded to 20 acres, threatening multiple commercial properties and homes.

One home was damaged and the studios of KEYT-TV were evacuated, ABC7 reported, as several TV stations were threatened.

The fire service’s latest update said the fire was 40 percent contained, with the evacuation order lifted and repopulation set to take place in the early morning of May 21.
