Farmers Count Cost of New South Wales Mouse Plague

Parts of New South Wales have been hit by a mouse plague, with a contract harvester in Nevertire describing the impact as “mentally overwhelming.”

Video from April 10 taken by the harvester, Michelle Jo Anne, shows dead mice covering the floor of a hay barn.

“[We’re] having to burn lots of bales of hay because they are just full of mice. It’s cost the farmers a lot of money and costing everyone a fortune in bait to kill the mice,” she told Storyful. “Everyone is starting to sow their crops now. Fingers crossed the mice don’t eat them.” Credit: Michelle Jo Anne via Storyful
