Farid Kamil sheds 20kg to play badminton icon Rashid Sidek

7 Aug –After successfully playing Malaysian politician and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Farid Kamil's next challenge is playing the role of badminton hero, Rashid Sidek.

The actor, who is part of the upcoming movie, "Gold", which will be released next year, stated that he had to shed 20kg off his weight to look like the athlete.

"I had to train a lot just to master his movements. For me, that is hard. In addition, I even had to reduce my weight from 80kg to 60kg. That took me two whole months," he said.

At the same time, Farid is thankful to Rashid, as well as Rashid's fellow siblings and badminton champs, Misbun Sidek and Jalani Sidek.

"I am honoured to be able to portray Rashid in the movie. It is an honour to meet them and play a game with one of them," Farid added.

"Gold", directed by Adrian Teh ("Paskal"), revolves around Paralympic badminton champion, Cheah Liek Hou, who was triumphant in the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, after being trained by Rashid.

The movie also stars Jack Tan ("Abang Adik"), and Wan Raja as Misbun Sidek. The movie is set for a 2024 release.
