KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 — Mandopop star Jay Chou is known for his energetic concerts with crisp vocals and dazzling visual spectacle.

Yesterday however saw Singaporean concertgoers taking to social media claiming that his concert in the republic fell short of their high expectations.

Chou held his Carnival World Tour concert on Saturday and Sunday night at the National Stadium.

In the comments of an Instagram recap post from Chou, online users expressed their disappointment Chou’s lack of vocal prowess and the show's programme.

One online user claimed that Chou’s voice was rough, unable to hit the notes of his own songs and relying too much on his backup singers.

“If your voice can't make it, then don't even consider holding a concert.

“You can't do your best, your fans have complaints, and then your reputation suffers as a result, what for?”

Some concertgoers also claimed that Chou’s voice was too soft, and that he was overshadowed by the lighting and special effects on stage.

According to other users on social media site Xiaohongshu, Chou sang sparingly as his show featured long sections of magic performances throughout the concert that had already begun late.

Other users who enjoyed the concert defended Chou by saying the condition of his health should not prevent him from experiencing the ‘true fans’.

Singaporean celebrities Pang Lingling and Jeanette Aw who in attendance also praised Chou’s show, calling it ‘a high profile concert’.

After many postponements, Chou will finally perform in Malaysia at National Stadium, Bukit Jalil on January 15, 2023.
