*Major spoilers for Enola Holmes below!*
Is an Enola Holmes sequel actually happening?
Even though the ending did keep things pretty open, nothing is official in terms of a sequel. Luckily, the movies are based on an already existing book series and there a five books total, so there's still plenty more stories based on Enola's life that fans can look forward to if they do decide to do a sequel. The first movie was based off the The Case of the Missing Marquess, while the second novel is called The Case of the Left-Handed Lady.
Would any of the cast come back for a sequel?
While a formal decision regarding an Enola Holmes sequel has yet to be made, Millie already says that she's down to come back for more.
"Yeah, there’s more of the story to be told. The story isn’t over yet. She isn’t grown up, there’s no conclusion. I think she’ll forever be someone who is always evolving, but there’s definitely more to be shown on screen," she told Deadline. "[Director] Harry [Bradbeer] and I loved working together, so this has to happen. Harry, we’ve got to send an email."
Meanwhile, scene stealer Louis Partridge says that he's also ready to come back for another adventure as Lord Tewksbury and he even has some ideas for what might happen to him in the future.
"I would love to come back. I saw somebody commenting on Instagram saying, 'Wouldn't it be cool if we found out that Tewksbury had something to do with Moriarty and he was a villain.' I was like, 'Oh, imagine! That would be a plot twist!' There's so many avenues [we can take it]. It was kept really up in the air about Enola and Tewksbury's relationship. Is it friendship? Is it romance? It's a bit of both love, not solely one thing. Playing around with that and maybe it goes one way or another. I also want Tewksbury to have a little bit of action and to prove himself to be a bit more independent than he was last film," Louis Partridge exclusively told Seventeen.
What would the Enola Holmes sequel be about?
Since the movie would likely follow the second book of the series, it would show Enola trying to crack a new mystery, while also hiding from her two brothers and Inspector Lestrade. According to the book's description:
"Enola Holmes is being hunted by the world's most famous detective — her own brother, Sherlock Holmes. But while she is on the run in the world's biggest, darkest, dirtiest city, she discovers a hidden cache of charcoal drawings and feels as if she is a soul mate to the girl who drew them. But that girl, Lady Cecily, has disappeared without a trace. Braving the midnight streets, Enola must unravel the clues to find this left-handed lady, but in order to save her, Enola risks revealing more than she should. Will she be able to keep her identity a secret and find Lady Cecily, or will the one thing she is trying to save — her freedom — be lost forever?"
