After the sad death of Adam West in 2017, Family Guy admitted replacing the star in his role as Mayor on the series would be difficult as he was "irreplaceable".
The producers revealed they "wanted to take the time to respect Adam" before they could think of recasting, or coming up with a new character to fill the spot.
Now they've found someone who can take on the role of a new mayor - Oscar nominee Sam Elliott - and it sounds like they've created quite the character for him.
"In having a conversation about 'How do you replace him?' the universal belief was: he's irreplaceable," executive producer Richard Appel told Entertainment Weekly.
"And then the next question is, 'Do you find a new mayor?' In the world of Family Guy, he had an important role, and a role that was necessary for a lot of stories."
Appel revealed Elliott was top of their list, even though he initially rejected the role as he wasn't keen on playing himself, so they recreated a new role for him.
"Sam has a voice that — obviously he's a movie star but he also has a voice made for radio, and Sam Elliott quickly became our first choice."
The character is actually Mayor West's cousin, whose first and middle names are Wild - so yes, the new mayor is Wild Wild West.
Wild West comes to town when Peter becomes unhappy with the candidates in consideration for the job and persuades him to run for office.
