KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has agreed to send two local referees for the 2020 Bangabandhu Gold Cup championship from Jan 15 to 25 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
According to FAM secretary-general, Stuart Ramalingam, the two referees, Tuan Mohd Yaasin Tuan Mohd Hanafiah, 28, and Mohd Hariff Md Akhir, 33, left for Dhaka today to begin work and preparations ahead of the opening match between Bangladesh and Palestine on Wednesday.
The decision to send the two referees, who were both International Football Federation (FIFA) referees, was made after FAM received an application from the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), said Stuart as quoted on the FAM Facebook page.
The invitational football tournament is divided into Group A comprising Palestine, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and Group B involving Mauritius, Seychelles and Burundi.
Based on the tournament's format, the best two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. All matches will be held at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
