Man caught with £60,000 worth of drugs after being stopped for not wearing mask
A drug courier was caught with £60,000 worth of Class A drugs when police stopped him for not wearing a mask on a train.
Paul Green, 38, was found with heroin and crack cocaine at a station in Wigan after police initially spotted him boarding a train in Liverpool without a face mask on 13 January.
Officers stopped him as he got off in Wigan and searched him when he became evasive.
They found the drugs haul and two mobile phones.
Green, of Prince Albert Mews, Liverpool, previously pleaded guilty possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.
At Bolton Crown Court he was sentenced to three years and four months.
Detective Inspector Matt Davies, said: "Clearly Green was using the railway to export drugs from Liverpool to Aberdeen for his own financial gain.
"His brazen efforts to travel a considerable distance with a large quantity of Class A drugs did not pay dividends thanks to the proactive work of our officers.
"Their efforts on that morning have resulted in potentially harmful heroin and crack cocaine out of circulation and Green spending his immediate future behind bars."
Green was caught during a British Transport Police county lines taskforce operation.
COVID rules state face coverings are mandatory onboard trains and in all enclosed areas of railway stations unless you have a disability or medical condition that prohibits you from wearing one.
