Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool definitively lead Prem midfielder race, with star all but sold on move
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed Alexis Mac Allister is “tempted” by a move to Liverpool, as he added the Reds “are the frontrunners” for his signature.
Mac Allister has been plying his trade in the Premier League for coming up to three seasons. Brighton seem to have a knack for breeding players into stars, and that’s been no different with the Argentine.
After being eased in during his first season, he played 33 times last term and showed a good deal of potential, as he scored five times and assisted twice.
This has been the best of his three seasons at the AMEX. The midfielder has scored 11 goals and provided two assists in all competitions, having also brought a World Cup medal back to the South Coast with him.
Those feats have led to interest from a number of the league’s biggest sides. Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are some of the big names linked with the snare.
While the former have reportedly made ‘no contact’ to Brighton over Mac Allister, Romano suggests at the player’s representatives, at least, have received a proposal from Liverpool, and the player is warming to it.
“They presented the project, presented the financial proposal. Now it’s up to Mac Allister; he’s tempted. Liverpool are advancing but it’s not a done deal,” Romano said on YouTube.
The insider also confirmed this means the Reds are out in front of any other interested parties at the moment, despite being at a somewhat early stage in talks.
“So it’s not as if Mac Allister and Liverpool have agreed everything and now the deal is completed. We have to wait on that side, for sure, Liverpool are the frontrunners.”
That’ll be music to Liverpool’s ears. After a poor showing for a good deal of the season, despite some periods of form, they’re in a sustained good patch.
Indeed, they’re currently fifth, one point behind fourth-placed Man Utd, having won their last six games on the bounce. The signing of Mac Allister should mean for less poor runs next season, and a better chance at a good campaign altogether.
