Tottenham may have a chance to finally secure the services of Sofyan Amrabat as a report suggests he will leave Fiorentina next summer.

The 26-year-old is currently in his third season with the Serie A outfit. He has enjoyed ten starts among 13 top-flight outings in 2022-2023, helping I Viola to tenth in the standings. Spurs were aware of his displays for the Stadio Artemio Franchi outfit, sending scouts to watch him last season.

And they were keen to do a deal for the Morocco international in January this year.

They were said to be in ‘advanced talks’ but Fiorentina blocked his departure on transfer deadline day. That was despite the north Londoners making an offer in the region of £13m.

He remained in Italy but was sparsely used by coach Vincenzo Italiano, making just eight starts among 23 league outings.

Spurs continued their pursuit in the summer and were thought to be in a battle with Inter Milan to snare the Netherlands-born ace.

Once again, their overtures came to nothing despite Fabio Paratici making it clear he was a big fan of the player.

But things may now change, with Romano giving his take on the situation.

“He was close, Amrabat, to joining Tottenham one year ago, January 2022,” he told the Here We Go podcast. “But then no deal in place between Fiorentina and Tottenham. Antonio Conte wanted him.

“Keep an eye on Amrabat for summer 2023 I don’t see him moving in January.

“But in the summer many important clubs are [interested] in Amrabat who is doing very well with Fiorentina and Moroccan national team too.”

Amrabat has itchy feet at Fiorentina

Amrabat has yet to put down roots, with five clubs on his CV already. He began his career with Eredivisie outfit Utrecht before a switch to Feyenoord in 2017.

However, after only one season, he was off to Belgium and short stint with Club Brugge.

A loan move to Hellas Verona followed before he penned permanent terms with I Gialloblu. But the Italians immediately sold him to Serie A rivals Fiorentina.

He has 18 months left on his deal with the Tuscany club but seems unlikely to see out his contract.

Amrabat to add steel to Tottenham midfield

Conte opted to bring in Rodrigo Betancur last winter during his first season in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And the Uruguay international has seen plenty of action, with 16 league starts last season and 13 during the current campaign.

The South American may well be an obstacle to the Spurs first team if Amrabat did join the Lilywhites.

However, Conte would be getting a player who does not mess around in the middle of the park.

Not afraid to put his foot in, the man with 40 Morocco caps has already picked up seven yellow cards this season.

Add that to six in 2021-2022 and seven the previous term and it is obvious he likes to put himself about.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham do opt for another tilt at the brother of former Watford winger Nordin Amrabat.

Other clubs will doubtless have a say in proceedings. But it appears as though he will be on his way from Fiorentina.
