F1 Driver Standings 2024: Lando Norris closes gap on Max Verstappen at Hungarian Grand Prix
Max Verstappen saw his title hopes take another dent as the Formula One season entered the second half of the calendar.
The Red Bull driver fumed and swore at his team throughout the Hungarian Grand Prix at the chosen race strategy, but was ultimately at fault for finishing fifth after clipping Lewis Hamilton in the final laps.
Verstappen’s main rival, Lando Norris, looked certain to record his second F1 win only to eventually let his team-mate Oscar Piastri pass after repeated orders from McLaren.
Hamilton followed up his British Grand Prix victory with a third place in Budapest.
In the F1 constructors’ standings, McLaren, therefore, leapfrogged Ferrari into second place.
