The Sister finale spoilers follow.

The Sister star Nina Toussaint-White has opened up about a big question on fans' lips following that dramatic finale.

In last night's (October 29) episode, Nathan (Russell Tovey) appears to have gotten away with his involvement in Elise's (Simone Ashley) death after managing to put Bob (Bertie Carvel) in a coma.

While life seems to be moving forward with a baby finally on the way for him and Holly (Amrita Acharia), in the final moments Nathan sees Elise's 'ghost' in the back of his car.

Naturally, fans may be asking whether this is a ghost in the traditional sense, or just a ghost as a psychological trick of the mind, especially given the show's exploration of the idea.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Nina – who plays Jacki in the four-part series – admitted she thought it was a traditional ghost, answering: "I think it's a ghost following Nathan around. That's what I think.

"Obviously, the beginning scene is him about to end it all because he can't handle the situation of being haunted," she added.

"And then he sees the press conference with Holly and he feels he can find redemption if he makes her happy. And then he falls in love with her. But I think he's genuinely seeing a ghost."

The Sister aired on ITV.
