A Discovery of Witches newcomer Adelle Leonce has teased her expanded character from the original books, Phoebe Taylor.
Exclusively talking to Digital Spy ahead of season 2, which is based on the second book in the All Souls trilogy, she explained how Phoebe's popularity amongst author Deborah Harkness' readership influenced the adapters to carve out more of a storyline for her.
"Phoebe comes in, in book two [Shadow of Night], in one chapter," she noted.
"There's just one little chapter about Phoebe and Marcus as they meet... She is kind of like a historian, she works in an auction house, they kind of meet because he's looking for something.
"Then sparks sort of fly, and then that's sort of it in the book. But what they've done brilliantly is just really bedded out our storyline."
Leonce continued: "So when we were reading the scenes, all of it was new, we had no reference point from the book.
"So it was exciting to see how it progresses and how much fun they have, how faithful it is, and the seriousness and severity of the world that she may be going into. That was really interesting for us, because it was made especially for the series."
As for what readers specifically enjoyed about Phoebe's literary cameo, the actress reflected: "The fans just love that scene and love the characteristics and everything that Phoebe is in that chapter, so I think that's why they really wanted to fill it out and fill the relationship out.
"And it serves the story, the modern day side of it..."
