Exclusive: Brentford fear they know who Man Utd, Tottenham target will join, with ‘significant fee’ to swing deal
TEAMtalk has learned where a Brentford talisman wanted by Tottenham and Man Utd is likeliest to end up, though the Bees are poised to extract maximum value.
The future of goalkeeper David Raya is shaping up to be one of the primary transfer sagas of the summer at Brentford. The Spain international, 27, has another season remaining on his contract, though has indicated he’ll not sign an extension.
As such, the onus is on Brentford to cash in this summer or run the risk of losing a highly saleable asset for nothing 12 months later.
On the subject of where Raya might end up, two clubs are coming to the fore – Man Utd and Tottenham.
Spurs may be seeking a proven replacement for Hugo Lloris who’s increasingly error-strewn displays are holding his side back.
Man Utd, meanwhile, want stiff competition for David de Gea and per talkSPORT, are sizing up Raya.

Tottenham deal likeliest, but it’ll cost
Now, speaking exclusively to TEAMtalk, transfer insider Graeme Bailey has hinted it’s north London where Raya may wind up.
However, before a Tottenham deal can be secured, a “significant fee” must be parted with.
Indeed, Bailey stressed Brentford are open to cashing in, but only for the right price. If a suitable offer isn’t lodged, the Bees are prepared to retain Raya for one more year and allow him to walk away for nothing in 2024.
“David Raya has made it clear to Brentford that he will not sign a new contract and wants to leave,” said Bailey.
“I am told there is a major disappointment within the corridors of power at the GTech, but it is not done and dusted.
“They will allow him to leave, though only if the price is right. I don’t know if that is analytics-based or not, it could be, but Brentford would be open to keeping him and seeing him leave on a free in 2024.
“Brentford will not be allowing Raya to just leave, unless they get a significant fee.
“Raya’s people remain confident that the interest in him will see a bid come in from a big club. They believe he is very high on Tottenham’s wish-list to replace Hugo Lloris.”
On the subject of how big of a bid is required, manager Thomas Frank previously verbalised a valuation of £40m-plus for Raya. However, 90min believe that to be mere posturing and state an offer in the region of £30m will suffice.
That’d still be a sizeable sum for a player entering the last 12 months of his deal over the summer. It’d also represent a £27m profit on the roughly £3m they paid Blackburn Rovers to sign Raya in 2019.
