Below Deck original cast member Eddie Lucas is hoping his long-awaited return to the Hayu show will be a "redemption season".
Eddie joins the crew of My Seanna as bosun for Below Deck's eighth season when it launches this week, reuniting with Captain Lee Rosbach following the departure of long-time Chief Stewardess Kate Chastain.
When Digital Spy recently had a chance to chat with Eddie about the charter season ahead, he mentioned that he viewed his return to the show almost as a second chance.
"This season, Captain Lee didn't have Kate [Chastain] with him anymore and I think he needed a little ace in the hole. Somebody he could rely on," Eddie explained. "He definitely reached out to me to come back and work with him again. I'm always happy to work with Captain Lee. He's a good friend of mine, really a lot of fun to work with.
"I thought it'd be a good time to come back and have a little bit of a redemption season."
For newer viewers, Eddie is looking for "redemption" because he left the show back in the third season after engaging in a secret relationship with crewmate Rocky Dakota that went sour.
At that year's extremely contentious reunion, Rocky accused Eddie of not telling the truth about his relationship status off the boat since he had a long-term girlfriend.
"After my last season I was on, I left being pretty embarrassed and disappointed in myself," he admitted to us. "I felt that this would be a good time to kinda come back and be a good time to show that those really stupid mistakes I made were just that – a mistake in my life. It's water under the bridge. I wanted to come back and show the viewers, and prove to Captain Lee also, that I'm still professional. I'm still a good bosun and I can get the job done."
This season brings the crew of My Seanna to the Caribbean, where Eddie is in charge of all-new deck crew members James Hough and Shane Coopersmith.
"James and Shane are great. They're both great guys," the bosun said, before teasing a bit of conflict: "Shane is, bless his heart, a sweet boy. Very, very green but his heart is in the right place.
"And James is good. His priorities might not be completely in line with mine, but he's a hardworking guy and strong and tall. I could definitely use his assets in that.
"I try not to compare my crew members too much. I try to go into it with a fresh mindset and open mind about how best to work with them and get along and have a really successful season."
All seasons and every episode of Below Deck (including the new season 8) will be available to stream and download in the UK and Ireland on hayu and hayu on NOWTV from Tuesday (November 3), following its premiere on Bravo on Monday (November 2).
