Exclusive: Arsenal, Chelsea to submit offers for Real Madrid star who needs transfer, but one big hurdle looms
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City will all offer Marco Asensio the chance to come to the Premier League if he leaves Real Madrid, but they must overcome one major stumbling block first, TEAMtalk has been told.
Asensio has been on Real’s books since July 2015. Following his transfer to the Bernabeu from Mallorca, he has made 268 appearances and scored 56 goals, helping the club to win several Champions League and La Liga titles.
But Asensio could do with securing a transfer away from Real in the summer. He has found opportunities fairly limited this season due to competition for places from other wingers such as Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo. Manager Carlo Ancelotti also likes to play midfielder Fede Valverde on the right flank.
Asensio is facing a similar problem to team-mate Eden Hazard. They will both need to find new clubs this summer if they want to become important first-team players.
Asensio should find it easier to leave Real at the end of the season as his contract expires in June, whereas Hazard’s runs for an extra year.
The fact Asensio’s contract will soon expire means he can achieve a free transfer and potentially take part in a new challenge.
The Spaniard, who has won 35 caps for his national team, is a remarkable talent and it will therefore not be a surprise if clubs from around Europe make contact for him.
Asensio’s availability has put Premier League clubs on alert, too.
Arsenal, Chelsea and City long-term admirers of attacker
TEAMtalk understands Arsenal, Chelsea and City are all long-term admirers of the star.
However, those three teams must overcome one big hurdle if they are to sign Asensio. At the moment, they are not convinced that he wants to leave Spain.
There is the possibility of Real offering him a new contract, while other La Liga teams are also likely to try and sign him on a free.
But if the 27-year-old attacker changes his mind, then he will certainly have offers from the Prem. Arsenal, Chelsea and City will all send him contract proposals in this case.
