If you're Kate Middleton, you've spent the past few days embroiled in a photo editing scandal that's had tabloids and TikTok conspiracy theorists running amok. If you're Meghan Markle, you just launched a new lifestyle brand.

Indeed, it's been a busy news cycle for the royal family, with the Princess of Wales even issuing an apology for her doctored Mother's Day photo. Across the globe, in California, Markle has returned to Instagram after five-year hiatus, this time in the form of America Riviera Orchard, a website and social media account whose description reads "by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex," and "established in 2024."

What is American Riviera Orchard, Exactly?

So what do we know about Markle's new venture? Details are scant at the moment, but a trademark application offers some clues. The filing mentions a wide range of homeware product, including kitchen linens, servingware, napkin rings, chargers, and more. Jellies, nut butters, and preserves are on the proverbial menu as well. In addition, the page mentions a retail store, so there may be a brick-and-mortar edition of America Riviera Orchard sometime in the future.

Ok, So What’s the Vibe?

The brand leans heavily on a California dreamscape, particularly Montecito, where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have lived since 2020. Reports swirled last year that the duo was looking to relocate; now, Markle seems to be doubling down on the locale, at least from an aesthetic point of view. A since-deleted video posted to American Riviera Orchard's Instagram Stories featured clips of Markle preparing food in a kitchen—presumably one in her own home—against a decidedly neutral backdrop. The clip was set to Nancy Wilson's "I Wish You Love." The space includes a stainless-steel range, blue-and-white delft tile, and a copper sink

When Is the American Riviera Orchard Release Date?

Aside from this now-defunct clip, the only other kernel of information is the brand's linen-washed logo, which reads "American Riviera Orchard" in sweeping beige calligraphy. Despite the ambiguity, the Instagram account has amassed nearly 400,000 followers in its first 24 hours of life. Quite the appetite for "edible oils and fats."

Those curious to know more can join American Riviera Orchard’s waitlist via the brand’s website, though— like her “missing” sister-in-law, Kate Middleton—the wait time remains unclear.
