Ex-Cyclone Brings Flooding to Western Australia

Heavy rainfall brought flash flooding to Broome, Western Australia, January 3 and 4, as former Tropical Cyclone Ellie moved slowly over Kimberley.

The Bureau of Meteorology for Western Australia said on Wednesday morning the highest rainfall total recorded in the previous 24 hours was 206 mm measured at Broome Airport.

Heavy rain and flooding continued to impact Broome on Wednesday, with local media reporting that authorities warned locals they could be cut off by flooding from Thursday.

The bureau warned on Wednesday that damaging winds and intense rainfall were possible overnight. It said the former cyclone was expected to move to the southeast during Thursday. Credit: Emma Blyth via Storyful
