There has been a double update on Everton’s pursuit of a Borussia Dortmund star, with Sean Dyche finding out the player does not want to move to Goodison Park.

Everton have yet to sign anyone in the January transfer window. A large part of this was down to them not having enough money, but they have now solved that problem by selling Anthony Gordon. The 21-year-old winger has gone to Newcastle United for an initial £40million, plus £5m in potential add-ons.

Since Gordon left, Dyche and Everton have been busy looking at potential signings before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday night.

They submitted a £40m offer – which included an extra £5m in bonuses – to try and capture Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. However, he has rejected the Toffees.

According to reports emerging from Germany, Everton have also taken an interest in snapping up Dortmund winger Thorgan Hazard.

Unfortunately for Dyche, he will not be able to make the Belgian his first Everton signing. As per Sky Sports Germany reporter Sven Westerschulze, Hazard is highly likely to push back Everton’s advances and sign for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven instead.

The main factor behind Hazard’s thinking is the distance to his family, who live in Dortmund. He does not want to move too far away from them, as family ‘is a very important factor for him’.

While you can get from Dortmund to Eindhoven in two hours by driving, it takes around three and a half hours to fly from Dortmund to Liverpool.

Talks between PSV and Dortmund are advanced and the deal could be closed on deadline day.

Everton miss out on Dortmund raid

Fellow German journalist Patrick Berger, who works for Sport1, has also given his information on the situation. He claims Hazard has rejected an offer to join a Premier League club. Berger does not reveal which team it is, but if Westerschulze is to be believed, then it is Everton.

Hazard could have been a clever signing for Everton. As his Dortmund contract expires in summer 2024, Dyche could have landed him for a reduced price. And as he likes to play on the left flank, he would have been able to directly replace Gordon.

As things stand though, the 29-year-old will not be returning to England. He was previously on Chelsea’s books between July 2012 and July 2015, though he did not make a senior appearance for the west London side as he had multiple loan spells elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Dyche has explained how he will ‘give Everton fans what they want’ during his first interview as their new boss.
