Everton will push to sign Coventry striker Victor Gyokeres this summer ‘no matter what league they are in next season,’ according to reports.

The Sweden international has been in tremendous form in the Championship this term, attracting the interest of several Premier League clubs.

Everton’s current focus will be on avoiding relegation. However, there is no doubt that Sean Dyche will be making a new centre-forward his priority in the upcoming transfer window.

The Toffees currently find themselves second-bottom of the Premier League table. They have picked up just 29 points from 34 matches so far – their worst return at this point in the season in their entire history.

The lack of a proven goal scorer has been Everton’s key issue. In fact, they have scored the least of any team in the division, netting just 27 times thus far.

Their main striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has once again endured an injury-plagued campaign. Also, their summer signing, Neal Maupay, has scored just once in 24 league appearances.

With that in mind, Dyche will no doubt be desperate to get a quality striker this summer. Gyokeres could be an excellent option, but as mentioned, they aren’t the only Premier League club vying for his signature.

Everton will ‘absolutely’ pursue a striker

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Everton came close to signing Gyokeres in January. As well as the Toffees, Leeds also hold a firm interest in the striker.

Now, according to journalist David Lynch, Everton could go back in for Gyokeres this summer, even if they are relegated.

Speaking on the Football Insider YouTube Channel, Lynch said: “I think one thing we can absolutely bank on this summer is that Everton are going to pursue a striker, no matter what league they end up in.

“You know, I think that’s been a real huge need for them for a while. Not just in the case that maybe [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin leaves, they need someone there regardless of whether Calvert Lewin stays or not.

“Because his injury record of late has been terrible, and they need a focal point in this team, particularly if it’s going to be Sean Dyche the manager as well.

“[Everton need] a player they can play off, who can link play, who can score goals. You know, they’ve been so goal-shy this season. It’s been one of the biggest flaws in the team.

“So yeah, his [Gyokeres] goal record for Coventry has been extremely impressive. And he’s definitely a player that Everton like and have been watching closely.”

This season, Gyokeres has scored 21 goals in 45 Championship appearances for Coventry. That is certainly something Everton could do with, whether they remain in the Premier League or are battling for promotion next season.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if they can beat the competition to the Swede’s signature.
