Even Zoe Saldana's Mom Confuses Her with Thandie Newton: She 'Still Thinks I'm in Westworld '

Zoe Saldana and Thandie Newton look so much alike that even their family members can’t tell them apart!

Saldana, 40, stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden on Tuesday alongside actor Jason Clarke. While the two stars talked about their mothers, Saldana revealed that her mom, Asalia Nazario, still doesn’t quite grasp that her daughter isn’t Newton.

“My mom still thinks that I’m in Westworld,” she joked, referencing Newton’s HBO show.

“I’m like, ‘Years ago, you thought that I was in Traffic.‘ I’m like, ‘Mom, you did not give birth to Thandie Newton,'” Saldana added, as host James Corden doubled over in laughter.

“And then again, she was like, ‘Your show is on HBO!’ And I was like, ‘Which one?’ She goes, ‘Westworld!'” the actress said. “I was like, ‘When are you going to understand I am not Thandie Newton!'”

“So, what you’re saying is, your mother doesn’t know what you look like,” Corden said.

Saldana then revealed that she had once met Newton, 46, at an awards ceremony — but the interaction didn’t go the way she planned.

“And then I met Thandie at the Golden Globes a couple years ago and I hugged her,” Saldana said, adding, “I kind of scared her because I didn’t tell her why I was invading her space. I was just like, ‘Oh my god, please tell me that people confuse you with me.’ And she’s like, ‘Who are you?'”

“But we text now! We’re friends. So we’re sisters,” Saldana added.

This isn’t the first time Saldana has shared the silly story. In 2014, she told The Hollywood Reporter that her mom had once seen a poster for Newton’s 2004 movie Crash and thought it was her daughter.

“She saw a poster for Crash and called me to ask me why I didn’t tell her I was in a movie with Matt Dillon,” Saldana told the outlet.

Then, in 2018, Victoria Beckham mistook Newton for Saldana at a SoulCycle class in Los Angeles, according to Vanity Fair.

“We were chatting away when she said, ‘It’s so great that you are here when you are pregnant,’” Newton said on The Graham Norton Show at the time. “I said, ‘I actually had my baby a couple of months ago.’ “We carried on chatting and it was obvious she thought I was someone else so I said, ‘Do you think I am Zoe Saldana?’”

“Victoria was absolutely mortified!” Newton added. “It was actually okay as Zoe is a rare beauty, but really? Up close? Come on! And — I am British!”

Saldana’s new film Missing Link opens Friday.
