Evacuations Ordered as Brush Fire Burns Near Southern California Town

The Route fire burning near Castaic, California, grew to 5,208 acres (8.1 square miles) by Thursday, September 1, and was 12 percent contained, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Mandatory evacuations and road closures were in effect for the area, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Office said.

According to local media citing officials, at least eight firefighters “suffered heat-related injuries” while battling the blaze.
