Eurovision 2023: All Liverpool shows sold out as grand final tickets go in 34 minutes – latest

Eurovision fans are scrambling to get their hands on tickets for the 2023 competition after they went on sale.

The 2023 Eurovision Song Contest will be taking place in Liverpool, after the UK stepped in to host the competition for reigning champions Ukraine.

Eurovision week kicks off on Monday 8 May, with semi-finals taking place on Tuesday 9 and Thursday 11 May. The grand final will then take place on Saturday 13 May.

Tickets went on sale on Tuesday (7 March) at midday for all three televised shows, as well as six previews. The events will be taking place at the ACC Liverpool arena.

Tickets for the final sold out in less than 34 minutes, while the official Eurovision Twitter account has warned that “demand is high” for the remaining tickets.

While the UK’s representative for 2023 is yet to be announced, singer Birdy – best known for her 2011 cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” – is currently the bookies’ favourite to represent the UK in Liverpool.

William Hill has Birdy at odds of 6/4, closely followed by pop star and John Wick 4 actor Rina Sawayama in second place at 5/2.

What are the rules about buying Eurovision tickets?

Tickets are going on sale for nine Eurovision shows today, but there are rules about buying tickets.

According to the Eurovision website, you can only buy tickets for one show at a time. For the three live televised shows, customers can purchase a maximum of four tickets in one order. For the six preview shows, customers can purchase a maximum of six tickets per order.

Tickets are priced from £30 to £290 for the semi-final shows and from £80 to £380 for the grand final shows.

While Freya Ridings has shut down speculation she will represent the UK in Liverpool, Rina Sawayama has been fuelling rumours of her potential involvement on social media.

In 18 February, the “This Hell” singer shared a TikTok captioned: “Huge announcement !!!!! A dream come true !!! So excited to finally let u all know.”

However, the announcement in question turned out to be that she was “officially banning the word ‘mother’”, with fans commenting: “She’s playing with us I thought it was Eurovision.”

Sawayama then shared a series of photos wearing a Eurotrash t-shirt on Instagram, which she captioned: “Eurotrash on a Eurotour.”

Freya Ridings – one of William Hill’s predicted acts to represent the UK in Liverpool – has denied that she will be following in Sam Ryder’s footsteps.

“I’m not doing it!” she told Official Charts. “I’m really not!”

Ridings explained that the rumours had stemmed from her recent appearance on the series finale of The Graham Norton Show, in a slot that is normally reserved for this year’s UK Eurovision entry.

“Graham Norton was really kind to me, but he gave me [that slot] because he knows I’m an indie artist and he’s really championed me,” she said.

“But then it looked like I was [doing Eurovision]. But I’m not!... I love Eurovision, me and my family watch every year but it’s not... it was never my ultimate goal in life.”
