The Vjosa River flows uninterrupted

for 170 miles

From Greece to the Adriatic Sea,

without dams or power stations

Albania is declaring it a national park

"At the beginning, a sum of $80 million will be allocated to construct a sewage system across all municipalities along the Vjosa River. The goal is to stop these communities from dumping wastewater into the river. The project aims to clean and treat the contaminated water."

Environmentalists say it's home to 1,000 species

including the critically endangered European eel
