Euro giants urge Tottenham star to run down contract before free transfer, as Daniel Levy prepares for gigantic loss
An insider has explained how Bayern Munich hope to capture Harry Kane in a move which would be a massive blow for Tottenham both on and off the pitch.
Kane appears to have three options on the table. They are to stay at Tottenham by penning a new contract, move to English rivals Manchester United or join Bayern and play in a different country for the first time.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is determined to keep Kane and has put his price tag at a whopping £150million until fresh terms are agreed. The England captain’s current contract expires in June 2024.
If Levy does have to let his prized asset leave, then he would much rather negotiate with Bayern than Man Utd. Selling Kane to the Red Devils would vastly strengthen a direct Premier League challenger, so it is obvious why Levy prefers the Bayern route.
Kane appears keen to sign a new contract at Spurs, and he is expecting renewal talks to begin at the end of the season. But Bayern are hopeful of ruining those discussions.
Journalist Christian Falk, who is an expert on Bayern, has revealed how Julian Nagelsmann’s side plan to sign the goalscorer.

“Currently they are building on an extension with [Eric Maxim] Choupo-Moting. Harry Kane is still interesting for Bayern, but is currently difficult to implement financially for the coming summer,” Falk said in an interview with FCB Inside.
“It wouldn’t be the worst situation for Bayern if Kane let his contract with Tottenham expire. If Choupo was extended, the record champions could also wait until 2024 for the England captain.”
Tottenham would be distraught over Harry Kane exit
It seems Bayern will tell Kane to run down his Spurs contract before moving to the Allianz Arena on a free transfer next year. This would be a massive loss for Spurs for two reasons.
The first is Kane’s impact on the pitch. He is Spurs’ talisman, bagging the majority of their goals and also setting up his team-mates with his fantastic vision. If Kane were to leave, it is highly unlikely Spurs would manage to bring in such an effective striker as his replacement.
Secondly, Kane leaving on a free transfer would be a huge financial hit for Spurs. They could have sold him to Manchester City for £150m in 2021, or potentially to Man Utd for a similar price this summer. But if Bayern’s crafty plan comes off then Spurs would not get any transfer fee for the 29-year-old.
It makes sense that Bayern want to sign Kane on a free, as this would be one of the best transfers of all time. However, it is hard to see them being successful.
Kane still hopes to end Spurs’ trophy drought. And he also has one eye on Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record (260 goals). He will not be able to beat this if he moves to Germany.
Meanwhile, Spurs are battling Aston Villa for the capture of a Barcelona midfielder, according to reports.
