Bayern Munich aim to catch Liverpool and Man Utd cold and secure a £50m Premier League raid that was considered unthinkable until two recent developments, per a report.

The future of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is a subject that has the potential to dominate the summer transfer headlines.

Mount is a two-time and reigning Chelsea Player of the Year. Combined with the fact he’s a homegrown star, the common consensus was a new contract extension would be straightforward.

However, unlike the new deal handed to Reece James back in September that was quickly sanctioned by Todd Boehly, Mount’s future has lurched into uncertainty.

Indeed, he’s out of contract at the end of next season and the Telegraph claimed negotiations over a new deal had reached a stalemate.

The Daily Mail subsequently reported Mount had appointed agent Neil Fewings of the ROOF agency to help explore his options in the market. Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City are all waiting in the wings.

In a TEAMtalk exclusive, transfer insider Graeme Bailey confirmed to us Boehly is dead set against allowing his players to enter the final year of their contracts.

The Blues will soon come under Financial Fair Play pressure after forking out over £500m in the last two windows. As such, high profile player exits are required and Chelsea cannot afford to let highly saleable assets such as Mount leave for nothing.

A Blues exit this summer is thus a very real possibility in the event a breakthrough over a new Chelsea contract isn’t forthcoming.

However, according to a fresh report from The Times, each of Mount’s English suitors could be gazumped by Bayern Munich.

Tuchel to out-manoeuvre Klopp and Ten Hag

The newspaper reports Mount is wanted in Bavaria and Bayern are ‘considering taking advantage of’ Chelsea’s delicate financial position and Mount’s contract stalemate.

The Blues will reportedly command ‘at least £50m’ if they’re forced into cashing in. That’s a sizeable sum for a player who’ll only have 12 months remaining on his contract, though Bayern sound keen nonetheless.

Explaining why, and noting an advantage Bayern have that the English suitors don’t, the report highlights the chance to link back up with Thomas Tuchel.

The former Blues boss succeeded Julian Nagelsmann last week and Mount played the best football of his career to date when Tuchel was at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel is termed a ‘strong admirer’ of Mount and is presumably the one driving Bayern’s pursuit.

If the idea of playing for Tuchel once again ranks highly for Mount, a move to the Bundesliga could be his surprise next step as early as this summer.
