As previously reported, the Sam Levinson drama — which last aired in February 2022 — is targeting a 2025 premiere date. Season 3 is poised to feature a sizable time jump, at which point Rue & Co. will have graduated from East Highland.
“One of the issues I think that Sam is thinking about is that he doesn’t want to have it in high school anymore,” Bloys says. “That’s where it was set and what made sense then. So when you take it out of that, there’s a lot of back and forth about where to set it and how far in the future to set it and all that stuff. But I think he’s got a take that he’s excited about, and he’s busy writing.”
At one point, Levinson reportedly envisioned a third season set five years in the future — though neither Levinson nor Bloys has gone on record about the precise passage of time. However, in a recent profile of series star Zendaya, the series’ creator described the HBO drama’s next chapter as a “film noir” that will “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world,” all told through Rue’s perspective.
At the end of Season 2, Rue was once again clean from drugs and looking to rekindle her friendship with Lexi; Ashtray was killed during an encounter with the police at Fezco’s home; Nate turned in his dad Cal; and Cassie and Maddy continued to deal with the remains of their friendship.
Euphoria’s “core” Season 2 cast consisted of Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Nika King, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Maude Apatow, Javon Walton, Dominic Fike, Storm Reid and Austin Abrams. Ferreira has since announced her departure, while Cloud died last summer at the age of 25.
