Etta Ng denies trying to change her surname to Chan

18 Dec – Although she claimed to have no interest in becoming a part of Jackie Chan family, many have questioned Etta Ng's decision to change her surname from Ng to Zen (which many think to be a stylised spelling of "Chen" or "Chan") on her social media accounts.

However, in a recent interview with Apple Daily, the 19-year-old love child of Elaine Ng and Jackie Chan, explained that the "Zen" surname she used on Facebook and Instagram accounts has nothing to do with her estranged father, but to her it is a term that means "peace and acceptance".

"Zen is a kind of identity, a reminder for me to calm myself and have a peace of mind," she said.

Etta pointed out that she used to be too impulsive and emotional, and letting her past life affect her deeply.

"Now I have to put everything in the past behind me, and learn to move on from my trauma. I was hurt, and now I am healing," she said.

When mentioned that Jackie changed his Chinese name to Fong Si Lung in the late '90s to match his father's original surname (which is why son Jaycee Chan originally debuted as Jaycee Fong), a confused Etta responded with a laughter that she didn't know that.

Asked if she feel that she resembles her mother or her father more, she turned to wife Andi, who responded, "You look like Etta".

Satisfied with the answer, Etta told the reporter, "I look like myself."
