Many of us are currently setting New Year resolutions, and making a switch to a more sustainable lifestyle and getting more exercise are likely to both be popular choices for 2020. Although ethical sneakers are becoming more readily available, it can still be hard to find sustainable styles which are suitable for running. Here we round up some of the more eco-friendly running shoes out there, which use recycable materials, less plastic, and give back to charity, to make it easier for you to meet two of your goals this year.
Hoka x OV Clifton
French brand Hoka One One has teamed up with Outdoor Voices to create a special version of its award-winning style, the Clifton 4. The new Hoka x OV Clifton combines Hoka One One's signature Meta-Rocker system, which helps to drive you forward, wih Outdoor Voice's sustainable principles, including using more and more recyclable materials. It's also been designed to be lightweight and comfortable no matter how long you run for.
Adidas Terrex Two Parley Trail Running Shoes
Adidas is one of the bigger sports brands trying to do its bit for the enviroment, and its long-standing partnership with Parley offers athletes a range of clothing and apparel made from recycled waste. If you're a trail runner rather than a road runner then you might want to try the Terrex Two Parley Trail Running Shoes, which are not only made with recycled fabrics so you can feel good while wearing them, but also feature a ContinentalTM Rubber outsole for improved grip when out on rougher terrain and in wetter conditions.
The hugely popular sustainable brand Veja has finally released its first-ever running shoe, the Condor. Created with materials made from recycled water bottles, sugar cane, rice waste, banana oil and more, as well as organic cotton, the innovative shoes still offer all the performance aspects you need for running, including a flexible sole that supports and stabilizes the foot and a lightweight upper.
Vivobarefoot Primus Lite
The VivoBarefoot Primus Lite is an ultra-lightweight running shoe which features Vivobarefoot's signature 3mm sole for those who prefer the feel of barefoot running. The vegan shoes are not only made from recycled plastic but also feature the brand's Algae Bloom Performance Insole, which is made using algae biomass and is a more sustainable alternative to synthetic EVA.
Newton All-Weater Gravity
A good choice for this time of year, Newton's All-Weather Gravity shoes will help protect your feet in wetter conditions and feature a glow-in-the-dark outsole to help improve your visibility on dark winter runs. Newton is also actively working with a variety of charities, including Soles 4 Souls, Trickle Up, and One World Running, to give back to local communities and help promote running to people of all ages and walks of life.
