English Police Rescue Motorist After Car Swept Away in Floodwaters

Officers from Worcester, England, saved a woman from a flooded vehicle on Tuesday, April 25, bodycam footage released by the West Mercia Police shows.

According to police, officers received a 999 call about a vehicle that got stuck in floodwaters when the driver tried to cross a ford. By the time units arrived, the car was “already at least 10 meters downstream and submerged underwater,” the West Mercia Police said.

Video shows the moment officers broke the car window, formed a human chain, and pulled the woman safely through the driver’s side. The rescue took place within 20 minutes of the 999 call, West Mercia police said.

Chief Inspector Brian Gibbs said “thankfully” the driver wasn’t injured during the incident.

“This is however a stark reminder of how dangerous the water can be and we would always urge motorists to take care and avoid driving through large pools of water,” Gibbs said in a statement. "I am immensely proud of the work of our team. They all acted in the finest traditions of policing, acting quickly and instinctively working together as a team to rescue the lady.” Credit: West Mercia Police via Storyful

[WHAPPING]

- Here we go. Here we go.

- Here.

- Come on, we've got to get her out.

- Have we got AM?

- Four people. That is a negative.

- Uh-oh.

- Crash code in my pocket. They want-- sorry, it's in the pocket.

- It's electric. It won't open.

- Shit.

- Yeah. Could she climb over the seat into the back.

- Let me empty some of this stuff. If you slip in the seat--

- No, she's so small, I don't think she can move at all.

- And I can move this stuff behind you, can you come out through here?

- Some of the store.

- Link to, so I can connect these two.

- Oh, there's a head, I'm sure.

- Nicely.

- You all pretty well going.

- She might not know. Like through the front.

- Don't apologize. If you don't apologize--

- It's no trouble, is for the public, will you lie off the roadway.

- Come to this window, mother.

- OK. Coming out.

- Sorry.

- You're OK.

- Ready?

- Oh, my legs struggle.

- Watch your legs. So close. You save it? OK, you ready?
