Emu plucked to safety from Australian floodwaters

Owner of 'Gookie', Paul Zammit, jumped in a boat to rescue the emu in the Sydney suburb of McGraths Hill, cornering it on the edge of the floodwater, before bringing the blindfolded bird back to his property.

Two other men in the same suburb used kayaks to bring eight chickens to safety as well.

The national weather agency posted weather warnings in every mainland state or territory but one, affecting around 10 million people in the country of 25 million, across an area the size of Alaska.
