Emmys Move Back to Sunday, as ABC Reveals 2024 Ceremony Date
The 76th Emmy Awards have been given an official airdate: Sunday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on ABC. The Television Academy and ABC announced the news on Saturday, during the Alphabet network’s portion of the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena.
The Emmys will once again air live across the country on ABC (and stream the next day on Hulu), and take place at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. A host and producers for the telecast will be announced at a later date. The live show is set to air on ABC and stream next day on Hulu.

A date wasn’t announced for the Creative Arts Emmys, but those two weekend ceremonies are usually held the weekend before the Primetime Emmys ceremony. That would place it on Sept. 7 and Sept. 8.
The TV Academy had previously announced that nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards will be announced Wednesday, July 17. The eligibility period for this Emmy cycle is June 1, 2023 – May 31, 2024.
This reps the second Emmy ceremony in 2024 — because of the impact of the Hollywood strikes, which pushed the 75th Emmys from September 2023 to January 15, 2024. But that ceremony was still considered the 2023 Emmys (just delayed into 2024), while the ABC telecast in September will be the official 2024 Emmys. The next Emmys mark a return to Sunday for the first time in two years. (In January, the Emmys on Fox was held on a Monday, while the 2022 event on NBC was aired on Monday, Sept. 12.)
The current broadcast network “wheel” deal for the Emmys (which expires in 2026) means that this is the first time ABC has aired the telecast since 2020 — in the midst of the pandemic. That year, Jimmy Kimmel hosted a virtually virtual ceremony from the Staples Center, while most winners and presenters beamed in from their homes or other remote locations.
Kimmel also hosted the Emmys for ABC in 2016 and 2012. Recent hosts include Anthony Anderson on Fox, which aired the most recent Primetime Emmys in January; also Kenan Thompson on NBC in 2022 and Cedric the Entertainer on CBS in 2021.
At the 75th Emmys last month, “Succession,” “The Bear” and “Beef” each nearly swept its respective category in the drama, comedy and limited series races. “Succession” and “The Bear” tied with a leading six wins each, and “Beef” followed closely with five trophies.
