Emmerdale hints that Victoria Barton and Wendy Posner could put the past behind them next week.

The two characters have frequently been at odds in recent months, as Wendy has always stubbornly refused to believe that her son Lee raped Victoria.

Recent episodes have suggested that Wendy could be starting to change her mind about Victoria (Isabel Hodgins), finally noticing how much the new mum's traumatic few months have affected her.

Although Victoria is still understandably keeping her distance, there's a surprising turn of events next week as she starts to worry about Wendy.

Susan Cookson, who plays Wendy, recently spoke to Digital Spy and other media about the future for her character and Victoria.

"Initially the way it was written, and the only way I could play it, was that Wendy wholeheartedly believed her son and did not believe Victoria," Susan explained.

"She felt there was something more sinister about Victoria and she was lying for some weird reason, because there's no way Lee would have done something like that.

"But as time has gone on, Wendy has been in the village and seen Victoria first-hand in her home environment, surrounded by the people who love her.

"It's starting to sow a seed of doubt that something must have happened. It really is a terrible dilemma to have to think about your child in that light and how you would feel about that."

Emmerdale airs these scenes on Thursday, January 30 and Friday, January 31 on ITV.
