Emma Roberts Celebrates Her 'Angel Boy' Son Rhodes with Sweet Photos on His 4th Birthday

Emma Roberts' little boy is growing up fast.

On Friday, Dec. 27, the 33-year-old actress posted a carousel of photos to Instagram of her son Rhodes in honor of his fourth birthday. In the first photo, Rhodes sits on the couch with a wide grin. The second and third show Roberts with her young son — posing for the camera in one, and playing arcade games in another.

She simply captioned the post, “Happy Birthday angel boy ❤️ 4!!”

The American Horror Story star has been no stranger to sharing her growing son with her 20 million followers on Instagram. On his birthday last year, she posted several photos of Rhodes on Instagram. And he’s made a few more appearances on her profile over the years: marking their first trip to Disneyland, a day apple-picking together, and enjoying a day at the park.

Roberts shares her son with ex Garrett Hedlund, from whom she split in 2022, not long after their son’s first birthday. The pair first started dating in March 2019 and welcomed Rhodes in December 2020, posting their first photo of their newborn alongside his name the next month.

"Thank you 2020 for getting one thing right," Roberts wrote on Instagram at the time. "Our bright light Rhodes Robert Hedlund."

This past year, Roberts opened up about her son coming to the set of the rom-com Maybe I Do — and how he doesn’t quite understand her line of work yet. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in July, she said, “He understands when my hair looks different and he says, ‘Take it off.’ And I’m like, ‘I can’t take it off right now. At the end of the day I can, but not right now.’”

“And I’m scared when I get a job [and] if I have to dye my hair another color… And [I] can’t take it off,” Roberts added with a laugh. But even if he doesn’t get her profession, she added that he loves to reap the benefits — namely the many free snacks on the set of her films.

In April, Roberts said that Rhodes has “the most beautiful relationship” with her mother, Kelly Cunningham.

"My mom is so helpful. To be on a show like this, American Horror Story, it’s very demanding.” the star said on Today with Hoda & Jenna. "It’s like 12-hour days, five days a week, and my mom helps me with my son.”
