Emergency Workers Rescue Passengers Trapped Overnight on Albuquerque Mountainside Tramway

Emergency responders worked on January 1 to rescue 21 people trapped overnight on the Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

One passenger stuck on the tramway said in a social media post the group had been trapped since 9pm on New Year’s Eve.

On Saturday afternoon, authorities reported that all but one of the passengers had been brought to safety.

“We are happy to report that the 20 people have been rescued from Gondola 2,” the Bernalillo County Fire Department wrote in a tweet. “Gondola 1 still has one employee and we are actively working are rescue plan.”
