Emergency Crews Rescue Residents from Florida's Sanibel Island

The US Coast Guard said that one of its crews rescued 11 residents and a dog from Sanibel Island after Hurricane Ian devastated Florida’s Lee County.

In a Facebook post on October 1, the Coast Guard said it was working with local agencies and good samaritans to locate and rescue residents who had become stranded after the hurricane. This footage shows a Clearwater crew evacuating 11 survivors and a dog, according to the Coast Guard.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said in a briefing that several parts of the Sanibel Causeway were damaged by the hurricane. Local officials described damage to the island as “significant” after the storm surge of eight to 15 feet caused “extensive flooding.” Credit: US Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater via Storyful
