Elon Musk’s X Moves Further Into Entertainment With Jim Rome Series, Part Of Multi-Show Slate Deal With Range Media Partners

The first show as part of the deal with the Elon Musk-owned platform will be hosted by sports host Jim Rome.

It comes after the platform announced that former CNN host Don Lemon would also be hosting a show on the platform.

Rome, the host of The Jim Rome Show, the longest running, nationally syndicated long-form sports talk program in America, will launch a digital video show airing throughout the year on X starting after the Super Bowl.

The deal will see Musk’s company and Range develop and produce at least 10 shows, across various genres and formats.

It is thought to be the first multi-show slate deal for the controversial social media platform, although Musk has signed the likes of Tucker Carlson to launch shows on the service as well as Lemon and Tulsi Gabbard.

It comes after former Turner exec Brett Weitz joined the company last year. Weitz, who was General Manager of TNT, TBS and truTV, is now Head of Content, Talent and Brand Sales at X, working for Linda Yaccarino.

Jim Rome said, “I couldn’t be more hyped to develop and distribute my unique brand of content on X. Media distribution has dramatically changed and X provides an incredible opportunity for me to reach fans on the biggest, most dynamic platform in the world. And as X continues its meteoric growth, it simultaneously allows me to grow, connect and engage my audience as well as our brand partners on a massive scale. Day 1. All in. Let’s go!”

Peter Micelli, CEO of Range Media Partners, said, “We started Range due to the seismic shifts we were seeing in the industry, much of which was being enabled by social media and tech companies. We wanted to build a company that was not only reflective of that shift but one that was able to take advantage of those disruptive moments for our clients and partners. We couldn’t be more excited about our partnership with X, and are in full alignment with the ecosystem it is building. This slate deal helps us continue to service our exceptional talent, and work with them seamlessly and collaboratively across the spectrum from content to commerce.”

Brett Weitz, Head of Content, Talent, and Brand Sales at X, added, “We’re building out more than just a content offering at X. We’re building a 360 degree media destination that encompasses the best in sports, news, and a variety of other audio and video categories. It’s essential to our strategy that we only partner with the best in class that live across those disciplines; Range Media Partners represents those players. Their deep bench of talent, like Jim Rome, and enthusiasm for the direction of the platform make them perfect partners as we embark on this new venture.”

Rome is represented by Range Media Partners, attorney Dave Feldman at Brecheen, Feldman, Breimer, Silver and Thompson, and manager Kraig Kitchin.
