Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he thinks plans to regulate social media in the European Union are “exactly aligned” with his thinking, after a meeting with the EU’s commissioner for the internal market in Austin, Texas, on May 9.
In video posted to Twitter, Commissioner Thierry Breton says he explained to Musk the Digital Services Act, which aims to impose stricter rules on digital media.
“Now you understand very well,” he tells Musk. “It fits pretty well with what you think we should do.”
“I think it’s exactly aligned with my thinking,” Musk says in the video, adding: “I agree with everything you said.”

THIERRY BRETON: So we're in Austin together with Elon Musk. Thank you very much then for welcoming me.
ELON MUSK: Thank you. Most welcome.
THIERRY BRETON: And, of course, we discussed many issues. And I was happy to be able to explain to you the DSA--
ELON MUSK: Yes.
THIERRY BRETON: --a new regulation in Europe, and I think that now you understand very well. It fits pretty well with what you think we should do in your platform.
ELON MUSK: No, I think it's exactly aligned with my thinking. I very much agree with-- it's been a great discussion, and I really think-- I agree with everything you said, really. I think we're very much of the same mind. And, you know, I think just anything that do my companies can do that would be beneficial to Europe, we want to do that. I just want to say.
THIERRY BRETON: Now, thank you very much. That's, again, a good example. Then when we see that there could be some differences, especially when we are speaking things so important for our fellow citizens.
ELON MUSK: Yes.
THIERRY BRETON: And then that life on the digital space. So best is to come and discuss. This is what we did, and I'm happy to see that we align.
ELON MUSK: It sounds-- sounds good.
THIERRY BRETON: Thank you very much.
ELON MUSK: Thank you very much.
THIERRY BRETON: Thank you.
ELON MUSK: All right.
