Elliot Page Says “Umbrella Academy ”Showrunner Was 'Incredible' Upon Revealing Plans to Transition Ahead of Season 3
Page's character on the 'Umbrella Academy' reintroduced himself to viewers as Viktor Hargreeves in season 3 of the Netflix series
Elliot Page had a strong support system both personally and professionally when he came out as transgender.
While speaking at the Time100 Summit on April 24, The Umbrella Academy star, 37, recalled the heartwarming reaction he received from the Netflix series' showrunner, Steve Blackman, after sharing his plans to transition ahead of its third season.
"Steve, the showrunner of Umbrella, is actually probably one of the first people I came out to," he shared. "I was supposed to go back to shoot the third season and wanted to ideally get surgery before. I called him nervously and he was incredible."
"If anything, he was the one who was very insistent on me having it be a part of the show and supported me to be able to access the care I was hoping to get at that time," he added.

In December 2020, Page came out as transgender and non-binary in a statement shared to Instagram.
"I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive," he shared at the time.
"To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better," Page added.
Before season 3 of the Umbrella Academy debuted on Netflix in 2022, Page's character was reintroduced to fans as Viktor Hargreeves. The actor previously played Vanya Hargreeves — whose superpowers are channeled through music — in seasons 1 and 2 of the show.

In February 2024, the streamer announced that the fourth and final season will be released on Aug. 8. While the official synopsis for the new installment has yet to be released, it will likely pick up after the season 3 finale, where the Umbrella Academy learn that they no longer have superpowers. Additionally, the series will likely delve even more into the mystery surrounding Reginald Hargreeves' (Colm Feore) backstory and his reason for creating the Umbrella Academy in the first place.
In addition to Page, the series' main cast includes Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, David Castañeda and Ritu Arya.
