An Inter Milan superstar wanted by Tottenham and PSG has verbally to a summer switch, and a report claims an early arrival in January may yet occur.

Antonio Conte’s desire to sign new defenders is no secret. The Italian cut a frustrated figure in the aftermath of his side’s 4-2 capitulation against Man City on Thursday. City’s four-goal blitz in the second half was the first time a Conte-managed side has shipped four goals in a single half.

Jamie Carragher called upon Tottenham to splash the cash or run the risk of the Conte era being a failure.

Indeed, Conte teams rely on a rock solid defence, though the current options at his disposal aren’t doing the business. As such, Carragher called for new additions at goalkeeper, right wing-back and two arrivals at centre-half.

Regarding the latter, Tottenham were heavily linked with Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni last summer. A deal ultimately proved too costly to make, though fellow Inter centre-half, Milan Skriniar, can soon be signed for nothing.

The Slovakian colossus, 27, is out of contract in the summer and has been stalling on penning fresh terms. Given he’s in the final six months of his deal, he’s now free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement.

He’s understood to count Spurs and PSG among his admirers. Italian journalist Rudy Galetti recently heightened Tottenham hopes when claiming Skriniar is holding out for a Tottenham offer.

However, according to French outlet L’Equipe, those claims are a false dawn. Instead, it’s reported Skriniar has in fact verbally agreed to join PSG next summer.

January move ‘not ruled out’

It’s claimed that barring an ‘improbable reversal of fortune’, Skriniar will be a PSG player at the beginning of next season.

What’s more, it’s even stated given Inter are destined to lose the player later this year anyway, they may now push to secure a cut-price sale this month.

In that scenario, PSG would likely only be willing to pay a fee if they feel they’re in danger of seeing their Skriniar move hijacked. A transfer fee of around €10m-€15m is touted in the event PSG are forced into opening the chequebook.

But if the player only has eyes for Paris, that sequence of events is unlikely to occur. Instead, it now appears Skriniar will simply move to Paris as a free agent once his Inter contract expires in the summer.
