The film is written by novelist Hannah Kent, who penned the script from an original idea developed with Carver Films, with Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw of Carver Films producing and XYZ Films executive producing. Moss will also produce alongside her partner Lindsey McManus.
Producer-sales agent XYZ is financing the project as part of its new fund with Finland’s IPR.VC, in conjunction with Screen Australia. Additional financing comes from Film Victoria and the South Australia Film Corporation.
XYZ is also handling worldwide sales on the film at the Cannes Virtual Market — set to run June 22-26 — while Umbrella Entertainment is managing distribution in Australia and New Zealand.
Moss, who won an Emmy for her portrayal of June Osborne in Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” most recently starred in the films “The Invisible Man” and “Her Smell.” She will next appear in Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” as well as Taiki Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins” and Neon’s “Shirley.”
Meanwhile, in addition to “Handmaid’s Tale,” Reid’s directing credits include Amazon’s “Upload,” HBO’s “The Outsider” and SBS series “Sunshine.”
XYZ’s recent slate of sales titles include “Dual” starring Karen Gillan, Aaron Paul and Jesse Eisenberg; “Cus and Mike” starring Anthony Hopkins; “Vivarium” starring Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots; and Sion Sono’s “Prisoners of the Ghostland,” starring Nicolas Cage and Sofia Boutella. XYZ is also in post-production on “Stowaway,” starring Anna Kendrick and Toni Collette.
Moss is repped by WME, Independent Talent Group and Ribisi Entertainment Group. Reid is repped by RGM Artists and ICM Partners.
