Elephant family welcomes third baby in Turkish zoo

A Turkish zoo has welcomed the birth of an elephant calf

LOCATION: IZMIR, TURKEY

The baby girl is an endangered Asian elephant

She weighed nearly 250 pounds and is yet to be named

Her mother Begumcan was pregnant for two years

NAME: SAHIN AFSIN, DIRECTOR OF IZMIR WILDLIFE PARK

"I'm excited, very excited. There is a great joy, it is impossible to describe. We really did have a daughter. We were constantly consulting with all our friends, especially zookeepers, about when the birth would take place, because they did not have any symptoms. Last week, there was a little swelling in their abdomen, we knew (that she was pregnant), but we could not predict whether it was time to deliver or not. It has been today's blessing."

Begumcan already has two daughters called Izmir and Deniz

Both were born in the zoo
