Eight new Covid-19 clusters detected today, including one affecting five Johor districts

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 — The Health Ministry has identified eight new Covid-19 clusters today, including one in Johor involving five districts as the state went up the list of most new cases.

The eight new clusters include the Tembok Choh cluster in Johor Baru, Pontian, Kota Tinggi, Kulai and Mersing in Johor; the Tapak Bina Broga cluster in Hulu Langat, Selangor; as well as the Tapak Bina Jalan Stesen cluster and Slot Berjaya cluster in Lembah Pantai, KL.

The other clusters include the Jalan Nikolas cluster in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur; the Gerbang Pongsu cluster in Kerian and Kinta, Perak; the Damai Ketari cluster in Bentong, Pahang; and the Alor cluster in Kota Setar, Kedah that had also been detected in two Kuala Lumpur districts: Cheras and Titiwangsa.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of clusters which have been deemed to have concluded now stands at 283, out of 506 total.

“These include five today, which are the Tapak Bina Sungai Mulia cluster, Assumption cluster, Blok 31 cluster, Tanjung Bunga cluster, and Jeri cluster,” he said in a statement.

Currently, 223 clusters are still active and are being monitored by the Health Ministry.

The Tembok Choh cluster is the largest one, accounting for 374 cases out of a total of 607 Covid-19 cases in Johor today.

The 607 cases in Johor make up 32.5 per cent of today’s total number of infections nationwide.

“Tembok Choh’s initial cases were first reported on Thursday (December 24) via targeted screening at a detention centre.

“As of today, 1,020 people have been screened with 382 positive cases detected,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

The Tapak Bina Broga cluster’s first cases were reported on December 26 following target screening at a construction site. As of today, 318 people have been screened and 64 people found positive.

Its index patient was identified as case 94,863 and diagnosed as Covid-19 positive on December 21 during a screening.

So far, 607 individuals have been screened, and 54 found positive.

The Slot Berjaya cluster was detected following targeted workplace screenings today. Currently 44 people have been screened, with nine found positive.

The index case in the Jalan Nikolas cluster is identified as patient 107,921, reported yesterday following a workplace screening. As of today, 54 people have been screened with six positive cases detected.

“The Gerbang Pongsu’s index case is the 100,176th first reported on Thursday following a screening on symptomatic individuals.

“As of today 53 people have been screened with eight positive cases detected,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

The Damai Ketari cluster’s index case is the 108,567th first reported yesterday following a screening of symptomatic individuals. As of today, 65 people have been screened, with 21 positive cases detected.

The Alor cluster’s index case is the 101,128th, which was first reported on December 25 following a screening of symptomatic individuals.

As of today, 33 people have been screened, with 20 positive cases detected.
